That away Dave, I always knew you had a leg up on that guy. Do you remember the time you were in Baraboo, Dave Deppe had to Bowl at the Elks Club and he called up my Dad, the Chief of Police and I, then about 13 or so, to keep you company while he did that? Maybe around 1973 or 1974. It was one of the great times of my life. In those days you wore Cowboy boots mostly, as my Dad and I did and still do, and as I recall you had some darn nice ones on yourself. Great conversation, and I think you saw that even though I was a kid that I had a great love for, and knew a good bit about the sport, and you conversed with me as such, a couple of racing guys doing some good bench racing. We were big Mopar fans anyway, but after that my Dad and I were truly Dave Marcis fans too. We ran the Ambulance Service at the Dells Motor Speedway as well, and I remember how smooth you were in the features that you would come for in the 70's when you drove my hero Larry Detjens' cars. The 60's, when you raced there more often were a bit before my time, but my Grandpa was always there with the ambulance then. Anyway, thanks for all that, always being your own man and setting a good example for everyone who watched how you operated, not only as a race driver but as a man. I suspect you still do that, particularly as to the latter, and I have tried to as well.Dave Bayer

Kind of a PS to you Dave. I suspect that nowadays as an Assistant DA for 25 years now, I'm probably as busy as you or more so, at times frankly its a living hell, but I'm pretty good at it and I guess somebody has to do it. My point is, should you like to talk again, just relaxed and on your own terms I would be more than happy to, and would make the time. Its the least I could do for the kindness and respect you showed me that night and I dare say, even at 50 years of age would still be a real thrill. Let me know, I'd be happy to give you my phone number or to call you.Dave Bayer

Two tough, bad, bad men...My heart broke when you two were gone from Cup. It's not the same, nor will it ever be
