Dennis, interesting. What were the details of Rockingham's "speedweek" ? Was it a one race-per-night program over the course of one week, with an "overall" winner? It's sound's similar to the current "Ray Cook's Southern Nationals", where super lates travel to various southeastern dirt tracks over the course of a week or so .

Typically they would start the week off with a Rocket 100 the Saturday before the 4th and then have another 100 lapper on the 4th with qualifing the day before and end the week on Saturday with a regular show plus a demolition derby or figure 8 race. It worked out great in '62 the 4th was on Wednesday. They did call the 100 lapper on the 4th a Championship race. I'll have to ask Dad about the overall winner deal.

Bobby, Dad said that each race stood on its own. No overall winner.

Hello Rick,I'm Thomas Ray Jr. Just found this great site. Jack drove for my Uncle Albert Ray. My father is Thomas (Tommy) Ray. Great to see some of the black and white cars from the past!
