Hugh became a race fan at age 10 in 1954 when he attended his first race at Bowman Gray with his Dad.

He built his first race Engine for his 1955 Chevy in 1961 during Jr. High School.  In the mid 1970's he worked as a crew chief on a SCCA road racer.

Hugh got his big racing break when he began working at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Jay Howard Events (JHE) and continued working there for 20 years organizing Pre-Race Shows at many NASCAR tracks from 1980-2000.

He retired and moved to Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. and got another big racing break when he met Bobby Williamson and talked him into letting him help with his Vintage Modified Race Car in 2010.

Hugh continues to help with Car 300 and very much enjoys being a part of "Thee Goat Rodeo" each week, and considers it super fun retirement!
