Track Locations-North Carolina

Stock Car Racing History

Looks like the list from autoracingrecords.com, a list of every track in NC's history. Some are still active, some were kart tracks, and some just are memories with few details as to their location.

HEY NASCAR, IS IT REALLY AS COMPLICATED AS YOUR PEA BRAINS MAKE IT?

Current NASCAR

Right, Tim. The cars are so aero-dependent....that it's not an engineering problem.....it's LOGIC. If all the cars are the same, and all are changed equally, there is no net change....everything remains the same. Duh. No matter what is done, the car in the lead, gets more air....it's been proven and demonstrated over and over and over.....

Raymond Parks: NASCAR HOF

Current NASCAR

The hope of many, here at Racers Reunion, was realized when Mr. Raymond Parks was recently selected for 2017 NASCAR Hall of Fame membership! Wish Mr. Parks could have experienced it himself, but congratulations are in order on a well deserved honor.

NASCAR All Star race was a trainwreck

Current NASCAR

Me too, Dave. I was at the local dirt track......easily following the local action, timing, scoring, everything...on my phone via www.racemonitor.com.......at Dublin, NC!! High tech has come to the backwoods.....unlike NASCAR LOL!

NASCAR All Star race was a trainwreck

Current NASCAR

Well said, BB! This year's "All-Star" event perfectly represents all that's wrong with NASCAR.....constantly, and ironically, portraying itself as a cutting-edge technology company.......or at least with partners who are. After all, they DID mandate EFI, American Ethanol, the Air-Titan, and Digital Dashboards. So, in the aftermath of the mother-of-all Goat Rodeo "All-Star" event, the official scape-GOAT: a scenario that was not run or was not anticipated.......Holy-Moly! But, that was no more than a canned response. Like you said, the reason is the constant monkeying and manipulating of the event. NASCAR is apparently convinced their own product will not survive on its own merit.

Tweetsie Railroad Whistle OK, But No Race Tracks Around Boone, NC

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

North Carolina, especially the coast and the mountains, have become a "retirement destination"....condo-commandos. Never underestimate their legal-mindset. Morals, ethics, a sense of fair play, never enters their consciousness.....only what is Legal, that's their only focus. Condo-commandos know the law, and how to change it.

Tweetsie Railroad Whistle OK, But No Race Tracks Around Boone, NC

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

The Boone race track situation has been on-going since it re-opened in 2015. Sadly, it illustrates the extent that opponents will pursue such a witch-hunt. It's a tough battle to win. Local politicians are terrified of angry, retirement-aged-subdivision-living-voters....Terrified.

THE HUGE POPULARITY OF CURRENT NASCAR

Administrative

At the height of Hoss Ellington's career, Wilmington'sStar-News had pretty good NASCAR coverage. I mean, it was not really great, and was sort of amateur-ish but they'd send a reporter to Charlotte, Rockingham, Darlington, and even Daytona. They went ballistic when Donnie Allison won Charlotte'sNational 500in 1976, in Hoss's back-yard car.It was a fun time. When the old Leland Raceway was in operation, they'd give weekly coverage of results and many feature articles too. Their NASCAR coverage has long-since past, and I tired to get them to cover the weekly races at the Dublin Motor Speedway (about an hour's drive from the port city) and the sports dept. was aghast. It was not "local" enough, or that's what I was told. My 30-something year subscription came to a screeching halt, a few years ago, when the price soared to over 200 $/year.

Does NASCAR have a next generation of fans?

Current NASCAR

There's a neighborhood kid, well he's almost 16 now, and I've been taking him to the vintage races with me since he was about 10. He's been driving my car some for the past couple years, and really loves it. But, he is not interested in NASCAR, don't follow it, and won't watch it on a TV. It seems the enduro-element of NASCAR is a problem with the younger generation. I think auto racing, of some sort, does have a future, but 500 mile-lap-kilometer events may not be the format. NASCAR may have to re-invent itself, and the recent 'heat races' at Bristol may be their first attempt.
