ARR lists the first fairgound track as a horse track that operated 1929-41, 45-46 then moving to the current fairground. The track I found was known as Piedmont Park, confirmed info via search of current fair website. The land was sold to build a housing project. The name of the current fair has changed to The Carolina Classic Fair and the property is now the Winston Salem Fairgrounds. The first photo is circa late 20s-30s and the last one is from 1948. The next available is 1955 and the housing project is built out.
There is not even a ghost shadow left of this one. On the west side of the 3900 block of Bethel Church Road, across the street from the Furman Substation I found this 1957 aerial. Click on the thumbnail.
Coordinates are N 36-30-34 / W 80-41-27 Directions: from the High school go West on NC89 to Race Track Rd turn right. Go 0.43 miles, track was behind the woodline to the right. Layout was NW-SE https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer 1948 aerial

A dirt 1/2 miler that ran in the mid 60's. Leaving Oakboro, NC on NC 295 it was on the right just before Rocky River which can be seen at the bottom of the photo.
While searching for the lost Rocky Mount Fairgrounds track, I came across the following ad for the 1935 fair. I mentions on Saturday there would be auto races from Hankinson Speedway. So, I did a search for that track. What I found was puzzling at first. It said the track was in Langhorne, Pa. So I only found the one everyone knows as "The Big Circle" Langhorne Speedway. Delving deeper I was able to find a clip of a race at Hankinson. It appears to be Langhorne. Has any of the members ran across this Hankinson Speedway in the course of their research?
Auto Racing Records lists a South Side Park in Winston-Salem as a 1/4 mile dirt oval that ran "regular cars" in 1935. The only thing I can find is the old minor league baseball park with the same name. The oldest aerial does not show any trace of a dirt oval in the South Side neighborhood.
I was going threw the AutoRacingRecords.com tack list or North Carolina working on my location database. I was looking for the 1/2 mile dirt oval listed as Morehead City and came across this on a Feb. 1957 aerial. It measures out @ 1/3 mile and was located on the northside of Country Club Road, between W/E Hedrick Drives and Oxford Court, 1/2 mile west of the Country Club golf course. I did a newspaper search and only found stuff for the greyhound course called Carolina Race Track on US 70. Does anyone have any info on this mystery track?
I am sill looking for the physical location of this track. But in the course of my research I found the following articles.
