Petty's "Ski-King" Flies Again!
Stock Car Racing History
The record "Ski King" by EC Beatty shown above was a popular record here in NC in '59 and '60 (from what I've been told, before my time ).
Mr Beatty was from Charlotte. He wrote a song about the now famous incident which supposedly happened at Lake Norman. It is a classic!
A guy named CJ Trahan, also known as Johnny Rebel, wrote and recorded a follow up song around 1965 called "Ski King and the Great Society". It's pretty funny too as long as one is not easily offended. It's important to consider the era in which these records were made.
