I am writing to ask for some help in solving a mystery regarding the BGN series. I have scoured the internet, newspaper archives, periodicals, etc., in an effort to identify and log a database full of past race information. One of the items sorely missing from places like Racing-Reference, for example, is information about what time of day BGN races were run (Day or Night).
Prior to the late 80s, BGN races were not televised, so getting a visual of the start time for each race is a lot harder. I have found a few photo archives that can be used to determine if a race was run in the day or at night, but most BGN races dating back to the Sportsman Series in 1982 seem to elude me.
What I have ascertained thus far is the time of day each BGN race was run from 1993 onward. Below is a list of tracks and seasons with races where I cannot find any credible evidence as to when each race was run. Note that some start times can be assumed (BGN races run on Sundays were LIKELY day races, Bristol spring races run on Saturdays were LIKELY day races, races at Lucas Oil Raceway were LIKELY run at night), but are not fully verified with any hard evidence.
As members of the community trying to keep this history alive, I am asking if anyone has any evidence of the time of day BGN races from 1982 to 1992 were run for the following races at the following tracks. Feel free to post the evidence in this thread. This can include photos from the race, winner's circle, newspaper articles, magazine articles, etc. All help will be greatly appreciated in keeping this part of our racing history alive!
