Bobby Allison '69 Holman Moody Grand American Mustang #49

Stock Car Racing History

Great photo--I sure do miss those days. I ran into Eddy Allision a few years ago he was the equiptment and shop manager for a large masonary contractor in the Atlanta prior to that he built handi-cap accessible cars and vans after he left the race shop in Hueytown in the early 80's

November 8, 1970 - Petty wins at Middle Georgia

Stock Car Racing History

I saw the King at a car show at the Indy Motor Speedway in mid September and had him sign a picture of him behind Bobby Allsion in the 22 car as they pass Neil Castles in the 06 from the race you write about. Richards comment was we were behind there but we won the race. Well I did not remember who won but as we walked away my wife checked on the I phone with google and sure enough the King did win. This many years and hundreds of races later he remembers where he and the team won. As always the King stayed and signed as long as there were folks wanting to see him. Still is one of the greatest of all time.

When Did "Alternate" Starters Disappear in NASCAR?

General

If we go back far enough Neil Castles made a living of sand bagging on his time trial laps and starting on the pole in the consi. (inverted field slowest starting on the front row) Every track had a 20 lap consi with the winner getting 250 bucks or so and getting into the Sunday show.

The number 06 car would always win the consi and make the show, the old guy knew how to make a few bucks.

Soapy would then start the big race run a few laps and be half back to his home before the race was over.

Lakewood Speedway

General

I have 4 great picture of cars at Lakewood from 1970 and would love to share them, trouble is I don't know how to load them into the system. If someone would send me an email address I will scan them and send them to you and let you post them on the reunion site for everyone to enjoy. Mike Ashley mwashley78@att.net

Prayers Needed for Don Naman

Administrative

I first met Don when he was the man in charge at Smokey Mtn. Speedway in Maryville Tennessee. Late 1960's he has always been a class act that everyone who ever raced at a track where Don was involved in the management know that he took care of the racers and fans. Mike Ashley
