I understand from Brother Bill Frazier that people are looking for his original "Racer's Prayer" from the 1970s. John Frazier and I have reproduced them, and they are free to who ever wants them.

Stock Car Racing History

Brother Bill the 1st chaplin for NASCAR. When he started, he traveled in his Chevy station wagon lettered up and decals on the front fenders. Then he got the small chapel trailer he pulled for his church. Richard Petty was one of the first big name drivers to step up and help with the money.

I was on a road trip with Bill as a teenage kid, when we were stopped by construction for road paving, it was August in Alabama, and the man standing on the hot pavement that day with the temp well over 100 was looking real weak... Bro Bill reached into the cooler and handed the man a cold beer and said, "the lord works in many ways," and we drove off. The look on the mans face was one I will never forget.

There are a bunch of fun stories out there about Bill and some of the funny things that went on back in the day. Bill was from my home town Gadsden Alabama.

Can trucks actually run at Eldora?

Current NASCAR

The answer is yes the trucks can run Eldora and any other dirt track.. I watched the Grand National cars race on the dirt in Columbia SC, Greenville Pickens SC late into the 60's and put on a great show. 100 mile races were the best. The cars weighed 9.5 lbs per cubic inch. with a minimum weight of 3400, thanks to Bobby Allison and his 302 cu in giant killer.

The only problem will be the preppy little I have to keep my fire suit clean drivers, enough said about the rich kids.

Not only should the trucks run dirt the other series should have at least 5 stops a year on dirt and some quarter mile tracks mixed in as well.

To the na-sayers do you not keep up with the ARCA cars and the Springfield IL state fair races.

R.I.P. Cecil Flash" Gordon

General

Another real good one gone on the big track in the sky. I first met Cecil in 69 or 70 while traveling around with NASCAR's first preacher Bill Fraizer. Kept up with him for years he was a good one. RIP #24

School Buses and Stock Car Racing; Before Stenhouse, Donlavey Team Had a Blue Bird

Stock Car Racing History

The Stan Starr I knew was from Nashville. He and his son Jr. raced the old grand american circuit. He later was the head tech inspector at the fair grounds in Birmingham Alabama for a short time. He made the wrong people mad by saying that the next week the car that had been winning everything that season would be torn down until he found what he knew was there. Stan did not get to come back. The winning driver's brother had the track lease that year from the Jefferson County Fair Board. The year was 1977.

School Buses and Stock Car Racing; Before Stenhouse, Donlavey Team Had a Blue Bird

Stock Car Racing History

Stan Starr traveled the old NASCAR Grand American circuit in a converted school bus in the late 60's. The back was cut down and used as an open hauler. The front part was closed in to carry parts, tools and the sofa and chairs. Hey Stan Sr and Jr make a bunch of miles in the old blue bird painted silver hauling the Camaro.

He Also Retired in 1992, With 200 Fewer Wins Than The King

Stock Car Racing History

These racers are the real heros and back bone of the racing that we all grew to enjoy. Without the weekend warriors that worked a job all week to feed the family and take what was left and spend it on the race car, racing would not be where it is today. The menthat lived the racing life and never made it to the so called big time were the hardest working folks in America. Many thanks to all of you.

One of the all time great sites I would see as a kid was not just at the race track, it was passing the service stations and body shops with a race car parked out front. Now that was a great site in towns and communities all over the country.

NASCAR does not want anyone to even think outside the rules much less go there.

Stock Car Racing History

Just for fun go to Bruce Canepa's web site... Bruce has the 15/16 scale black and gold Chevelle in his collection and it is for sale... www.canepa.com

How the car got to the west coast I don't know.. Bruce is located in Scotts Valley just over the hill inland from Half Moon Bay CA. about 25 miles south of SF.

On the site go to race cars for sale. You can see the top with the spoiler lip at the rear glass. This car is a true piece of American Racing History built by the one and only Smokey.
