Hornaday Penalties After Bubba Rock Truck Hook Under Yellow?

Current NASCAR

Sorry Hornaday fans, but Ron has NO defense here. The in-car CLEARLY shows he retaliated NOT once, NOT twice...but THREE times. He clearly rubbed Wallace in the fence in turn 2. He then hit him in the left rear at the end of the backstretch, then finally crashed him out with the hook in the right rear. All that talk about speed and time to react is nonsense. You do the crime, you pay the punishment. Make him sit out however long Kyle was forced to sit out. Do I expect that? Of course not. To quote Bobby Allison years ago in the drivers meeting, where NASCAR announced all of these new rules changes: "Depending on who you are."

Rex White

Stock Car Racing History

And no disrespect to Rex White. TOTALLY deserving of being nominated AND selected to the Hall. But when people like Robert Yates and Junie Donlavey and Smokey are being passed over year after year, then there is something inherently wrong with the selection process.

Congrats to 12th place Martinsville Rookie Danica, but I Remember 2 Rookies in Top-10 in 1986

Stock Car Racing History

A couple of things I remember from that race. We were driving back from Daytona Beach from a mini-vacation that Sunday. I was about to turn 10. That race was the first engine failure for Bill Elliott in over 3 years- at that time, no small feat. I can remember being in my dad's Dodge van with MRN on the radio that day listening, and ultimately disappointed VERY early in the race- 42 laps to be exact. The other thing I remember is reading the recap in Greg Fielden's '40 Years Of Stock Car Racing' that the field was SO depleted, that outside of the eventual winner, Ricky Rudd, that NONE of the drivers that finished from 2nd through 16th even led a lap in the race. The final thing was that Buddy Arrington had cracked the top 5 in that race- but lost an engine in the final 50 miles.

ANY UPDATE ON DENNY yet

Current NASCAR

Jenna Fryer just Tweeted: Denny Hamlin out at least 6 weeks, according to team. Will not need surgery.

Too early to stick Kyle Larson or Darrell Wallace Jr. in that car? I guess they could opt for someone like Regan Smith in the interim as well- but guessing AJ Allmendinger is probably not an option given his ties to Penske. But wouldn't that be a little ironic, too?

Ricky Rudd is on Dallas TV show Right Now - Mon. 1/28 9-11 EST

General

Isn't this Rooster's first tv/movie appearance since Stroker Ace talked Ricky into letting him take Aubrey James for a swim?

DirecTV HotPass is no more...

Current NASCAR

From Jayski:

No DirecTV Hot Pass in 2013: DirecTV is doing away with its NASCAR Hot Pass programming this year. The decision brings an end to the five-year-old service that gave subscribers four channels of in-car-driver video and audio. The distributor opted to discontinue the service because of its cost. DirecTV also decided to end its sponsorship of NASCAR. It had been an official partner of the sport since '07. It is looking for other ways to stay involved in the sport and plans to set up displays at some racetracks this season. DirecTV Senior VP/PR Darris Gringeri said, "We tried to charge for the (Hot Pass) product a few years ago, but the demand for it was low. We decided to switch to a free service. It's been great and we've been happy with it. It's been a differentiator. But in the end, the production cost became too much to bear." The offering was expensive because DirecTV had to sublicense the video rights to in-car-camera footage from NASCAR rightsholders Fox, Turner and ESPN.

On a personal note, I hate this. Especially hate it after I read that DirecTV is planning another 4.5% rate increase across the board starting next month. On top of that, was nice to get the in-car audio/spotter chatter during the race and not be subjected to the announce team.
