2010 Columbia Speedway

Well, I have to say that the volunteers and staff really went to great lengths to make this years Speedway Festival a hit! The track looks amazing. All of the debris and trees are cleared away and you could really feel all of the excitment in the air from the other fans there.There was a cruise-in last night and the cars a came in and took their lap around the track. I sat on the ground right past the second turn on the track and took pictures of the cars coming around. You could tell that they were "itching" to gun it!! Some did and as you can tell by one of my pictures, they left smoke in their wake! Others would gather side by side and you could feel the tension...they wanted to race that track sooooo bad.Wednesday night was bike night and alot of sharp looking motorcycles everywhere! My son (he is 6) had a great time and even started dancing when D. B. Bryant started playing. I caught that on tape for future black mail possibilites!! The motorcycles came in as a parade of sorts all the way from Irmo! They started at the Harley Haven and pulled in around 5:45pm or so. I love to hear the sound of motorcycles in a convoy I must admit!In addition to this years program books they have a few of last years 1st Annual books available. There will be legendary race car drivers there once again to share memories and sign autographs.I sat taking pictures in the middle of the track yesterday evening and a lot of memories came back. Daddy used to take us up to the Speedway for one event or another once a week when we were little. There we met with friends and family and although, I admit, I can't remember much, I remember having a good time and coming home exhausted.See you at the festival today for the last of this 4 day run...this is gonna be the big one today!
