Don Smyle looking for some info

Stock Car Racing History

The windshield post and interior quarter panel shade definitely appear to be from a 1966-67 Oldsmobile Cutlass. What does puzzle me is the drivers hand and wrist. It sure does look a lot like King Richards.

Stock Car Racing History

The race was named the "Vulcan 500" to honor the city of Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham was a big steel city in the first half of the 20th century. The largest cast iron statue in the world is located on Red Mountain in Birmingham. It is Vulcan Statue, named after the Greek god of fire and forge.

Red Farmer, my all time favorite. No better short track racer than Red. Many times the lone Ford in the field, and showed them his back bumper most of the time!

Southern 500 Moves to Darlington's Old "Rebel" Weekend

Current NASCAR

I'm with Dave, The Southern 500 is onlyduring the Labor Day weekend. My Labor Dayhas never been the same since it was moved. That is like the Indy 500 alwaysduring Memorial Day. NASCAR does notcare 2 cents about tradition.
