What Make & Model Automobile would you have liked to have seen more in Cup Racing?

General

I think it would have been neat if the various Chrysler products had stayed in NASCAR. (Still wonder why they never allowed the LeBaron or 90s Avenger, both of which were raced in ARCA. )

It's kind of twisted, but I would love to have seen a K-car in race trim. I know it wouldn't have been in NASCAR, (maybe Goody's Dash) but still. Woulda been cool.

It would have been great to see the Mercury that was tested...they also tested a Lincoln in 1996, and Cadillac got as far as drawing up what a Cup car would have looked like in 1996 or 97 as well. THAT would have been cool.

I've heard rumor that an Eagle was on NASCAR's approved list in the mid-1990s...but no one actually built one. Would have been kind of strange as Eagles were just re-badged Dodges, in fact, the Intrepid.

Sunny King

General

I never knew he was a "real person" if that makes sence. I just knew the Ford dealership was on a lot of race cars, from the 60s to 1990. Nice to learn the backstory here.

Newman Disqualfied!

General

I like Ryan but I hate when Cup drivers race- and win- in the other divisions, totally ruining those levels of the sport...so this is good news to me.

Did you ever see Richard Petty win in person?

General

Unfortunatly for me, I was born in October of 84, so I didn't. Seen a few on tape, though.

The King is the only NASCAR winner I've gotten to see in person, though. A few years back Kyle's Charity Ride came through and although I wasn't able to get a parking spot, I got to see Richard plain as day standing there while all the motorcycles were fueled up. Got a couple of pictures but didn't get to meet the man. Probably closest I will ever come, as I am physically unable to attend races or anything fun like that.

New pictures of the NASCAR Tucker surface

Current NASCAR

You folks are lucky to know the people you do! One of my friends from one of my model club's father worked on the Tucker, and a different friend's father ordered one, but the company was forced out of buisness before it was built.

I feel lucky that I was able to see Tucker #002 at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Musuem back in 2003, the only time I've seen a Tucker in person.

I'm not sure why the link doesn't work right in my original post, if you highlight NASCAR Tucker it should take you there, this system is still a little confusing to me, I'll figure it out eventually, I'm sure!

Jerry Sims passed.

General

Jerry taught me more about the history of the sport than any other single person I know. I never got to meet Jerry in person, but I knew him online for the past 10 years and he became one of my best friends online, probably the best friend I had and never met in person.

He always had something nice to say about/to me or my (many times amatureish) models of old race cars, he even made me a birthday card with me in Soapy Castles' Daytona.

The NASCAR forum world won't be the same without Jerry :(

I plan to pull out and watch the VHS copy of the movie Thunder in Carolina he sent me in his honor, which also had some 60s race footage he added as well.

MY HOLY GRAIL / 40 YR OLD GHOST

Stock Car Racing History

Congrats on finding your dad's car! My dad was a racer too (although drag racing) and we thought all photos of his car were lost...until earlier this year when one was found in a place we had never thought to look!! It's a great feeling!!

Found during a search for Tim Richmond pics.

General

What a powerfull post.

One thing I have not been able to figure out, is...was NASCAR scared of AIDS, or were they malicious against Tim Richmond?

I would suggest to anyone who has not read it yet, to read the biography of Tim Richmond that was issued several years ago.

I read it and it's highly recommended. I can guarentee it will also bring up a wide variety of emotions, too...
