I need help with a Racer's Reunion issue

General

Oh yeah, I am sure. At least it showed up eventually, some times I'll send an email or message board post and it never shows up! I guess when there is as much raw information and files that make up the internet it's bound to happen occasionally!

I need help with a Racer's Reunion issue

General

First off, forgive me if this should not be posted here or something like that.

Yesterday I got a notification of a friend request here, and I cannot find where to go in and accept it, even when clicking the link in the email, it just brings me to my list of friends.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Billy

Sausage, Chicken and history

General

Jim helped me out recently on a topic I've been chasing for a decade. Most people never even heard of it but he knew exactly what I was talking about and plenty more. Even through the brief postings on here I could tell he was a good person with lots of knowledge!

The NASCAR Volkswagen

General

Thanks again for the new info guys. Sorry I have not been around much!I knew it was a dangerous track but I didn't realize it claimed that many lives. That's terrible.

The NASCAR Volkswagen

Thanks for the info and newspaper clips Pete and Jim! I hadn't had all that information before, and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Frank Arford and the injury to Ray Duhigg. From everything I've heard, Langhorne was one of the worst tracks for driver health/safety...

The NASCAR Volkswagen

General

At Langhorne on 6/21/53, there was a race on the NASCAR Grand National Schedule called the International 200, which was open to the regular domestic cars, but also to non-American cars, one of the relativly few times that was allowed in the 1950s. The race had some Porsches, Jaguars, even an Aston Martin....and one single Volkswagen! It was driven by Dick Hagey, and wore the #18. He finished 19th in a field of 38, the race being won by Dick Rathmann in his Hudson.

Since I found out about this car's existance about a decade ago, I have been trying to hunt down a photograph of it. I have been unsuccessfull. Does anyone here on Racer's Reunion have a photo of it? It is one of my two Holy Grails of NASCAR history, the other being the Tucker that broke before the race started. I have since found a photo of the Tucker....but the VW still eludes me.

I believe it to be a VW Beetle, but that is unconfirmed.

I hope to build a 1/25th scale plastic model of it, once the photo is found, IF I can determine what colors the car wore.

Thanks in Advance!

How old is To Old to crawl into a race car

Stock Car Racing History

Johnny, I have always said....Age is just a number! If you can still do it, and are still having fun...go for it! James Hylton is still in ARCA at 74, Hershall McGriff is still racing at 81, and he was in the first Southern 500! They are still more then capable of getting the job done, and so is Woody Moore. I am sure there are plenty of racers who I am just simply unaware of that can still get it done, despite beginning their career decades ago.The only time I would say it's time to hang up the helmet would be when you can no longer get in and out of the car, or when you get to be so old that just standing up could lead to a broken bone or something. Somethere where even a minor bounce off the wall or another car could cause major physical harm.

Need your input

General

Here's my opinion...my main goal in life is to document every car that ever ran a Stricktly Stock/Grand National/Winston Cup/Nextel Cup/Sprint Cup race.I do look over the modified pictures that is what is mainly being posted here these days, but while they may be cool and certainly historic, they aren't my main interest. As such, this is the only Racer's Reunion site I visit on a regular basis, though I have looked at them all at least once. Here's what I think: Keep this one for stock cars, meaning full bodied cars WITH fenders...IE early Grand National, Winston Cup to the 90s, Busch from 82-90s, USAC, ARCA, ASA, etc. As well as the local tracks that ran cars with full fenders, I believe commonly known as Late Models.have one for Modifieds, which could cover most of the stuff on Dirt Racer's Reunion and most of the stuff being posted here now, including local tracks and the NASCAR Modified division up to and including 1981Drag racing seems to be doing well, although it isn't what I am into, it seems like it has the support to stay as is.Combine everything else into one other page called Other Racer's Reunion or something along those lines. They may not have enough each to support their own page, but maybe combining them all into one, they could be kept. Since they do have a lower traffic rate, somebody who is only into one form of racing should, in theory, not have to scroll through that much to find what they are looking for.Just my opinion...as long as there is still some NASCAR history being posted on here, I will keep checking it!

MORE THAN THE SOUTH

General

I don't have any pictures (born too late!) but my home state of NY has the second most number of tracks used in Grand National/Cup series, second only to North Carolina. Lots of local short track activity here as well!
