That was a great name - Thunder Chicken !

It was good to me to see two of our "locals" finish in the top-5, with Reds Kagle of Greenbelt, MD in 4th and Runt Harris of Fredericksburg/Richmond piloting the local Junie Donlavey ride to a 5th place run. Reds would later lose a leg in a horrible encounter with ARMCO steel guardrail at Charlotte, but he later raced and won with just one good leg!

Danica Patrick FINALLY Wins Again!

With Michael Waltrip and his band of slippery, slimy and deceitful lucky dogs hoarding all the NASCAR news, it has been very difficult for our RR leader, Jeff Gilder to find any GoGirl news being posted.

Ever ready to spring to Jeff's assistance at a moment's notice, I have searched the airwaves high and low for any news of the girl in green.

Voila!

Turns out Danica finally won again recently, but the news was overshadowed by those "Know-How" guys.

So, here you go, Jeff. No need to thank me.

What Did You Think of This Little Girl?

The past several years I usually cringe when the individual (s) is (are) announced during the NASCAR pre-race festivities to "perform" the National Anthem.

What a pleasant surprise when ESPN telecast this past Friday night's Nationwide race at Richmond to hear little 11 year old Sophia Nadder, a student at Robious Middle School in Midlothian, Virginia sing our National Anthem straight from the heart with none of the usual embellishment, screaming or histrionics.

Nice job for a little school girl in front of a race audience and a national television audience. Hats off to this little Miss.

Stock Car Racing History

There is a wonderful 1955 Walt Chernokal photo of Ralph Moody in Mel Joseph's Lincoln-powered "49jr" at the Alcyon Speedway in Pittman, New Jersey provided by Russ Dodge to the 3WidePictureValut site.

Ralph' 1955 car owner in the photo is the same Mel Joseph of Georgetown, Delaware who would one day build Dover Downs... today's Dover International Speedway.

Much was made over Dale Earnhardt getting back in a car he rolled in the February 1997 Daytona 500 and posting a 31st place finish, 5 laps down.

Earnhardt had nothing on Ralph Moody, who'd already "been there, done that."

In the February 26, 1956 Daytona Beach Road Course Grand National race, Ralph Moody rolled his #12 '56 Ford then refired it and posted an ASTOUNDING 3rd place finish!!!

In Earnhardt's case... it was a matter of "everything old is new again."

Unlike Earnhardt, Moody finished on the LEAD LAP !!!

This race would mark the 4th and final 1956 win for Ralph Moody in a season that saw him make 35 starts and post 13 top-5s and 21 top-10s, earning an 8th place finish in the NASCAR Grand National Points Standing for 1956.
