Wish I knew where it was. URN was using the late Dick Jones, Sports Director of WITN-TV, Little Washington, NC, on the broadcast for that race.

That's Dick on the right below:

Before Dick arrived at WITN-TV, renowned race broadcaster, Sammy Bland ("the racing man") held down the fort in Little Washington.

Thank you, Tim and Chase. They came back to Moyock and ran again on November 7, 1965. Somewhere, in some box in my attic, I have a reel-to-reel tape recording of the radio broadcast of the November 7, 1965 Moyock race won by Ned Jarrett.

Fascinating stories about Welborn's retirement plans.

How about Coastal Jack Walker... were you at this 1958 Rambi race?

We have to explain a little further, Patsy, that Tim and I spent about twenty minutes talking to the young man and his father, who was a deputy sheriff in Gates County, NC and lived in Elizabeth City. We actually got separated from the group heading to lunch and had to catch up. When all was said and done, Tim had given out a card and issued an invitation for the father and son to check out our RR site.

Been out doing much behind yard work and have to return soon before any late afternoon showers.

I had a wonderful time Thursday meeting fellow RR members and touring the NASCAR Hall of Fame with them. Bill Blair, Jr. is a walking encyclopedia and pointed out things on old 40s/50s era cars that were revelations to all of us.

Many thanks to Randy Myers and Tim Leeming for organizing this outing. The fellowship was outstanding. I saw Devin lurking in the shadows several times with her camera and goodness knows what might show up later!

It was a wonderful get together.

Maybe we can all chip in and find a suitable PR person for The Legend, Johnny! Wonder if Ruby might be available?!

Darlington Raceway President Resigns

Current NASCAR

ISC track head honchos have fallen like flies in the past several years. Doug Fritz who headed Richmond for ISC (and formerly worked in NASCAR's Marketing Dept.) was turned loose a year or so ago and resurfaced in Iowa.

I first met Chris when he interned for the late Dick Thompson at Martinsville and later moved to Rockingham. Best wishes to Chris in his future endeavors.

How appropriate that one of the Myers brothers won 57 years ago on the same date their sons will be escorting our RR group through the NASCAR Hall of Fame today.
