August 7, 1955: Lee Petty wins in Winston-Salem

The "Politically Correct Classic Fair" sounds pretty lame.

Lennie will turn 74 this coming Monday, August 11. He is still selling cars at Heritage Chevrolet in Chester, Virginia!
Lennie slept in the car the night before the win to keep anyone from changing the car setup.
Reckon " The Slapper " will be so quick to tap the Cup guys on their helmet as he was at the Nationwide race this year at Road America? I have a feeling if he tries that crud at the Glen he'll get his bell rung.
Thanks so much, Russ. Great addition.
Can you tell us anything about Nashville's Crash Bond, the 13th place finisher in his only career Grand National start? There's got to be a story to go with that name!
Thanks, Tim. I can say with all honesty that I have never attended an Atlanta race where I considered the traffic direction as "ept." I guess the worst was Richard Petty's final race when it seemed the whole media world showed up.
Video of Tony's Iowa tumble. Look at how close those houses are to the track. Wouldn't take much to land a sprint car on the front porch.
Cool clip. Didn't remember Lee in the booth. How about the CBS intro announcer relocating the track to Birmingham?! I guess Talladega and Eastaboga are about as close to Birmingham, though, as Hampton is to Atlanta.
Just checked the mileage... Almost twice as far from Talladega to Birmingham as from Hampton to Atlanta. CBS really stretched it in their opening.
A butt lift, a nose job and a 9th place in 3 tries!
