There have been many exciting Clashes and Shootouts at Daytona.
Coming off his 1979 NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Rookie of the Year performance, a win in the 1980 Busch Clash at Daytona got Dale Earnhardt headed toward his first Winston Cup Championship.
I'm sure Busch Beer would have preferred Cale Yarborough in that #11 Busch Chevy they sponsored out of Ronda, NC in victory lane, but the results were prophetic.
The 1980 Busch Clash on CBS television was run on a rain plagued date. The ARCA race, already in progress, was red flagged to run the Bush Clash, then resumed following Dale's win.
That's the Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt smile I remember so well. R.I.P. Dale and Suitcase Jake.
Very thought provoking. I didn't have a clue, Dennis. That must be some story about snatching the car.
Here's a link to a clip from a 1958 Southern 500 preview from the Spartanburg paper proclaiming Eubanks an early favorite in a Cotton Owens ride, although "he hasn't raced in nearly two years."

The article clearly states Eubanks has "retired and made it stick" and infers only five of the Big Six would be racing in that year's Southern 500.
Outstanding. Big Bill didn't easily tolerate the "outlaw" stuff did he.
I look forward to hearing the answer. Brave folks to snatch a car off the starting line!
As you describe, Sandeep... here's the in-car camera mounted in Cale's car at Michigan in 1983:
Back when Ken Squier first brought back those big, bulky in-car cameras over from Australia, most teams and drivers didn't want them in their cars. They were distracting to the driver, created a weight balance problem, and took too long to install in the cars.
