Drove Frank Steelman, Jr #9 red and white modified ford in modified championship race at Concord Speedway October 1957. Went off turn 1 in the woods, that car never raced again. This was one of Bruton Smith ideas, we did get $100 appearance money. We had two Steelman Motor cars entered that day. I think Ned Jarrett drove the other one.

Bobby Isaac drove my brother's #9, red & white, modified ford 1958-61. Won many feature wins NC, SC, VA, & TN. My brother was Frank Steelman Jr. Boonville NC.

Looking for info. Sometime in fall of maybe 1959, 60, or 61 Bobby Isaac won a 50 lap modified race at Columbia Speedway on a Saturday. The next day Sunday, Bobby won a 200 lap race at Hickory. Bobby was driving a modified, 37 Ford, red and white #9 built and owned by Frank Steelman, Jr of Boonville NC. I am David Steelman, brother of Frank. Or Syracuse Mile! We ran Modifieds with Bobby Isaac as our driver of the #9 Steelman car twice late 50's. Great venue!

Great idea, why could they not run a truck race at the Charlotte dirt track maybe 4 to 7 days before Or after Eldora?

What about a truck race at Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC? Seating capacity is about same as Eldora. I heard this last night from someone who has a high interest in the possibility!

Bobby Isaac race there in late 50's driving Frank Steelman's #9 modified, finished third. Bobby had won Spartanburg on Friday, won Myrtle Beach on Saturday, but only got third on Sunday. Sunday race hard 32 models mostly, we had 37 ford coach.
