I met with the nice folks in the Augusta Recreation & Parks Department today to make final plans on for the 6th Annual "Augusta Vintage Nationals" on September 12th at the former Augusta International Raceway. They are excited about all of you "Out - of - Towners" coming in for the event! The Community Center/Library Complex is being spit-shined, the landscaped Motorsports Memorial Plaza is being "freshened up", the former pit lane behind the building is being cleaned with blowers and tractors and they wanted to give me another tour of the facility (which I have already seen 1000 times). They are proud of what you will experience.Point being.......................Motorsports fans will be welcomed with open arms on September 12th. In fact, they are so excited about this annual event growing so much and bringing attention to the 300 acre Diamond Lakes Regioanal Park that they have "waved" the normal rental fee that is charged to every other soul on the planet. In our research on the initial developers of the Augusta International Speedway complex two things stand out in the minds of the AIRPS members.One........the developers put a slogan in concrete letters on top of the main entrance...........Augusta International Speedway - Where the Masters Race. Well the Masters are again coming to Augusta!Two...........the very original concept for the complex, even before groundbreaking began, was to develop and "Olympics" for the racing fan with all types of motorsports activities taking place. Well, that "Olympics" is happening and it is happening today. Thanks Racers Reunion for helping the Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society take the annual "Augusta Vintage Nationals" to the next level and fullfill the dream of the original developers here in Augusta.

Thanks gentlemen! I am excited about meeting all the new folks coming to Augusta.Wait until I tell you folks about our plans for the flag pole "project" in Motorsports Memorial Plaza. When funding arrives we will erect 3 flag poles just behind the monument. One pole for the US and Georgia flags, one pole for the Augusta Recreation & Parks Department flag and one pole for the "Eternal Checkered Flag".The others may be taken down in the evening but the "Checkers" will fly 24/7 here in Augusta for all of those racers, tracks and support personnel before us and those that will come after we are all gone. This project has already been approved by the Parks Department.Damn, we all have so much to do.................so in the words of Marvin Gaye let's get it on!
