my brother loved to drive race cars! he raced the local dirt tracks in north and south carolina and then
moved to the old grand national east division and then up to nascar. he raced nascar from 1972 til 1986
as a independent, he struggled on the money end of it but his passion for the sport was unbelieveable!
today is a sad day for our family, he left us on this day in 1988 in a tragic plane crash! he was only 38 years old and has been missed by alot of people. one of those people is jimmy reep who helped my
brother for many years and is as true a friend as a man could have! thanks jimmy for all your help and for
keeping his memory alive. hope all of u will take a moment to remember him today!
thanks jerry newsom
My thoughts are with you. I lost my brother at a young age too....just two years ago this month.
Jerry, I remember your brother and this is one of the things that is great about RR. Rick Newsom will always be remembered here.
He was one of the dedicated racers that came up through the ranks like they should and he too learned from the school of hard knocks. He done most of his own work like many of the independents of that era. He was one of the good guys that could not afford the cheater parts unless someone gave him one by accident. I remember him as a dedicated, hard working man and a pretty darn good driver kept his nose clean and made alot of friends along the way.And yes I think of him from time to time when I see the #20 out front.
Jerry, Never had a chance to meet your brother but from the stories Jim Reep tells me he sounded like someone special. His car and memory is alive on the west coast and his old Torino is wearing LeeRoy Yarbrough paint now and still racing vintage. I think of him every time the car is taken out.
