Where's Pops?
Back in '63 nobody was looking for Waldo but a lot of stock car fans were missing Curtis Turner when they went to the regular places he used to hang out. It took a complete change of scenery to see ol' Pops in a stock car back then. Seems that Bill France took a dim view of someone trying to organize "his" drivers into a union. Seems Pops had gotten himself a little "overextended" while building the new speedway in Charlotte and tried to exchange organizing the drivers for a little loan to help tide him over until the ticket sales kicked in. France couldn't see the upside in that deal and as a result Turner didn't see the inside of a Nascar racecar for about four years, hence the USAC decal on this Ford.
