Ridley raced as a sub for Bill Elliott in the 89 qualifying twin. Elliott had broken his wrist in a practice crash about a week earlier. Elliott did qualify the car, and he raced in the Busch Clash and IROC races. He started the Daytona 500 but soon turned it over to Ridley to go the rest of the way.
