Greenville Pickens Speedways:Tom Blackwell-RIP
News is Tom Blackwell owner of Greenville Pickens Speedway has passed away. I hardly knew him myself and know he didn't know me. But my father,family and many others knew him well. When my Dad un-retired and started racing again he said "What the HELL are you doing back here,I thought you were smarter than that."One night when a touring series came in he said"Don't yall go wrecking them prima-donnas."There is is many more not fit for print.He was a legendary track owner and will be missed. R.I.P. Mr. Tom Blackwell.
On Saturday, April 10th a special tribute to Tom Blackwell was held at Greenville Pickens Speedway where Tom was General Manager and Promoter until the day he died. Every race car at the speedway was brought out on the track for a memorial tribute lap around the half mile historic oval. Tom's name was added to the famous "Champions' Wall" between turns three and four. I've been around that track for a long time and it won't feel the same without Tom.
