Vallo Captures Dick Dunlevy Memorial Win Number 299 by Jerry Wahl Xenia, OH. - Eighteen NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models lined up for the start of the second annual Dick Dunlevy Memorial 100 lap feature. Tim Allensworth and Ricky Bates brought the field to the green with Allensworth taking the lead and Bates second. Justin Alsip and Joe Hill battled side by side with Alsip taking the fourth spot and then went after third place runner Sam Heckman with John Vallo right behind as the caution came out on lap seven when Scott McMillen spun on turn two. Back underway Allensworth continued to set the pace as Vallo went to work on Alsip. Vallo made a move on the inside on lap eleven for third as he then went after second place running Heckman. Then the chase was on to catch leader Allensworth. The front runners started to lap the tailenders by lap eighteen and then the second caution came out on lap nineteen for a spin by Shawn Stansell on turn two. Vallo was right behind Allensworth on the restart as the two former feature winners started to pull away from the field only to see the third caution come out when Chuck McClure stalled at the pit exit ramp. Vallo overpowered Allensworth on the restart to steal the lead and put some distance over Allensworth. Lap twenty eight brought out the caution again when Shawn Stansell apparently blew an engine going into turn one oiling down the track.Vallo again pulled away as Joe Hill tried to pass fourth place running Justin Alsip but Alsip shook him off and then the fifth caution came out for a spin on turn two. Again Vallo set the pace and unfortunately lap thirty four put an end to Don Mahaffey's night as he blew an engine after which Eddie Simpson and Scott McMillen tangled on turn one with McMillen out of action. Things were going pretty smooth until lap forty one when Bobby Justus spun the backstretch for caution number six. With Vallo still out front Allensworth began to close the gap and at the halfway point it was Vallo and Allensworth way ahead of the field with Heckman third, Alsip fourth, and Hill fifth. Allensworth was coming on strong on Vallo as Vallo appeared to start to slow the pace a bit and the seventh caution came out when Alsip and Hill bumped with Alsip spinning. Allensworth was almost on Vallo's rear bumper but Vallo continued to shake him off as again Vallo pulled away from Allensworth. Back in the field Ricky bates was working on Alsip for fifth followed closely by Hill and Justus. Donnie Renner held down fourth place as he watched the rear of third place running Heckman. Lap seventy five showed the running Vallo, Allensworth, Heckman, Renner, Alsip. With Alsip and Bates battling for position they made contact and spun on turn three to see the yellow fly for the eighth time and Alsip sent to the tail. Also involved was Joe Hill who's car was heavily damaged and out. Allensworth did not give up the challenge as he put the pressure on Vallo at times pulling up on his rear bumper. Renner put the pressure on Heckamn, pulling alongside as they ran side by side with Renner doing so on lap eighty-nine. When the checker came out it was a tired John Vallo who had competed with the late Dick Dunlevy Sr. capturing the $1500 to win Dick Dunlevy Memorial 100 lap feature in the Gary Estes owned Weiler Welding sponsored car. Allensworth was a close second with Renner third, Heckman fourth, and Bobby Justus fifth. Rounding out the ten was Bates, Alsip, Jeff Marsh, Hill, and Eddie Simpson. Bobby Justus led all the way to capture the first late model heat while Joe Hill and Tim Allensworth battled side by side all the way for second with Allensworth barely nosing out Hill for the win with fast timer John Vallo coming from the tail for fourth. The second heat got off to a wild start as Virgil Powell spun going out of turn two and Chuck McClure smacking the outside wall. McClure darted to the pits to have his car checked over and made it back out for the restart while Powell was sidelined with damage. Jim Lewis Jr. picked up his first heat win of the year when action got back underway. Scott McMillan in his second appearance at Kil-Kare was second with Eddie Simpson third and Don Mahaffey fourth.
