MAARN:Pg.4: JOHN VALLO HAS BIG DAYTON COMEBACK. Dayton, OH - June 3-John Vallo, driving a Late Model Stock Car for the first time in the three years , won the late Model feature race Sunday at Greater Dayton Speedway. He had been off the circuit for three years with a slipped disc in his neck Surgery this past January corrected the problem. resulting in his triumphant return to racing. rounding out the top nine on the feature were Bobby Davis, Dick Lugenbeel, Dick Dunlevy, Jr. Ken Stookey, Kenny Rupert , Art Scott Dick Dunlevy Sr. and Dick Debolt. In the Flying stock division John Wilson his fourth feature event 0f the season driving his 1957 Chevy ,He started to take the lead from Paul Stapelton on lap 8 of the 20 lap race. Gary Robinson won the 10 lap Midwest Modified feature. starting in eighth position. and taking the lead on the eighth lap. In the Late Model preliminary event Buster Blackford was the top qualifier with a time of 18.65. good enough to set a new track record, good enough to set a new Record of 104,291, mph. Davis won the dash. and the heat races were won by Denny Dean and Vallo. The Flying Stock top qualifier was 50 year old Chic Hale, who has been driving since.1951. His time was 20.65. Hale also won the dash. The heat race winners were Rick Wilts, Terry Flora and Paul Stapleton. Gary Robinson was the Midwest Modified fast timer with a 21.04 clocking. Robinson won the first heat and Dennis Corbett won the second heat . In other regular events at Greater Dayton Speedway, Dick Botts won the Figure 8 event, and Doris Pride won the Powder Puff race.
