Date: Sunday, April 27, 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VALLO MAKES VICTORIOUS RETURN AT COLUMBUS John Vallo returned to Columbus Motor Speedway in dramatic fashion Saturday night with a convincing win in the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series late model feature. It was 2002 when the Fairborn, OH driver last competed regularly at the third-mile paved oval but the assembled masses would never have known it as Vallo picked up right where he left off six years ago, bypassing Donald Parsons with four laps remaining for the win. Parsons lined up at the front of the 24-car field and surged ahead of Coby Robb before the first lap went up on the NASCAR scoreboard. Matthew Parsons secured the runner-up position, behind his uncle, relegating Robb to third just ahead of the eventual winner. Action was slowed on a couple of occasions with the worst of the damage being inflicted on Jim Hursey's mount. He was uninjured and the contest continued with Vallo overtaking Robb for third spot on lap ten. He then closed on Matthew, drawing even on a couple of occasions and eventually displacing him at the midpoint of the race. While he set out after the race leader, defending track champion, Donnie Hill started to make his presence felt. Starting tenth, he was up to fourth spot with five circuits remaining using the same outside route that was serving Vallo so well. Back up front, the five-time track champion swept past Donald Parsons to claim the victory while Hill took advantage of a late race restart to claim third at the stripe. Behind the lead trio of Vallo, Donald Parsons and Hill came Matthew Parsons and Scott Leach.
