John Vallo Takes Kil-Kare Dayton 100
by Jerry Wahl
XENIA, OH - June 8 - John Vallo drove the Stenger's Ford sponsored Paul Storer owned Thunderbird to victory in the first Dayton 100 at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night before a standing room only crowd.
Vallo took the lead on the tenth lap from Hillbilly Duncan and never relinquished it. His most serious challange came from Dick Dunlevy, Jr. who caught up with Vallo but was slowed by an overheating engine as he wound up tenth.
Vallo and owner Storer pocketed 2,000 for the win, the largest paying event of the season at the third mile track that attracted a large field of cars.
Finishing second was Tim Ice with third going to Gary Williams, Hillbilly Duncan was fourth and Bussie Blackford fifth.
Dunlevy had fast time of the night with a clocking of 13.91 with the dash going to Robbie Dean and the heats to Denny Dean and Ice.
