This was my first big race out of town.It was The Turkey 200 in 1965 on Thanksgiving week end. It was a NASCAR race and we had too many crew men on T. C.Hunt,s car so I had to sign in on Joe Lee Johnsons car. I am not sure, but the field of cars was close to fifty cars and they let all cars start. On the opening laps there was a really bad crash on the back straitaway. In those days safety was not as big as today. Any way the cars in the crash were on fire.No Fire truck or anything so the one car was so bad they had to let the fire burn out. After a long delay the race restarted and did not finish until dark with no lights. The track was so bad a lot cars fell out. T.C. was up front until the end,but could only go so far on THREE wheels. What a day to get the racing bug!
