I would love to sponsor a model building competition. I'll supply prizes--items from the store, sorry no cash. Does anyone have ideas on how to set it up? Anyone want to volunteer for judging? My thought was to offer different categories and age groups to encourage entries from different skill levels. Maybe one that encourages kids, and first time builders. I have no idea how to structure this, HELP!KP

Karen,What part of the country are you wanting to do this in? We have a nice size fellowship hall at church that we may be able to use. This is in Greensboro, not far from I-40 and in the Four Seasons Mall / Coliseum area. I can help in putting this together. As an longtime modeler myself, this woulf be fun.Pastor Ken SharpeRacers Reunion Outreach ChaplainLevel Cross, NC

KarenThis is an awesome idea. Like you...I have no idea how to start, but sounds great. If you could have the judging at a physical location as Pastor Ken has offered, that would be great. But, I know we have several modelers on the site and they are pretty well scattered all over the country. Perhaps we could make a page for the competition...and folks could submit pictures of the models...we could appoint judges...and require a photo album of specifed angles...left side, right side..front...rear...interior...etc. Just thoughts...let's figure this out and do it. I'll be happy to help promote it. Let me know if you like the "online" idea...I'll get started making a page.Jeff

I had that thought too, Jeff. As I know many will not be able to attend who are great modelers as well. I would like to add something to this conversation too. If this is doen, maybe we need to add age catagories and skill level catogories. This was you would not have a beginner competing against a seasoned scratch builder modeler. This would level the playing field.Pastor Ken

Hi Karen,I am a member of Victoria Scale Modelers.Yes if this model competition is in a hall, the catagories are BEGINNINER - just starting out at any age, / INTERMEDIATE- model building for quite awhile / EXPERT- attention to fine exacting detail, exact size rivits and what not.Our group hands out ribbons for "Honourable Mention" / Fourth / Third / Second / to place first wins a small plaque and the judges can be critical. The photo competition sounds like a good idea tooHope this helps alittleRob

Karen,I have the fellowship hall approval for the event to be held in Greensboro, if you are interested in this. The layout is perfect.I like the idea of the photo competition as well too, as you can see from this posting sofar that there are many who want the event held in their areas. This can and will cause conflict. The idea is not to cause conflict and to have a fair judging of the models in different levels of experience in building. This way all can have their models entered and no one is out, due to logistics of getting to the chosen spot to hold the contest. Karen, as you and I have spoken about this already, I will put together a plan for the contest and break the catogories down, and make this fair to all parties entered. I will get this to you real soon.Pastor Ken

I really like the idea of holding the competition events with RR events. Sounds like Jeff may be able to make that happen.KP
