George Kent - A man now long retired and preceded by J.R. Kent was a dominant driver at the Chemung Speedrome and the Winston NASCAR modified tour.
George affectionately remembered the Duke of Kent or the Duke of Earl was an elite member in his division and a contemporary of other stars like Richie Evans,
Corky Cookman, Tom Gush, Charlie Jarzombek, Jamie Tomaino, Tony Siscone and the list goes on and on.
The old days. His charger and below even more retro taking a checkered at Chemung Speedrome.
This shot includes the great Supermodified driver Bentley Warren .
I remember the days when George Kent raced the Pinto chassis and the J-2,000 and the constant evolution of modifieds that we see today. George just got better and better and better and became one of the best in themodified modern era.
In the late 1980s, George Kent mysteriously disappeared, not just from the Modified Tour, but completely disappeared. In April 1990, we brought the Modifieds back to Richmond for their first foray on the still new 3/4-mile Richmond International Raceway. The Winston Twin 200 at the time was the richest NASCAR Modified race ever staged. Guess who reappeared for this race from his mysterious disappearance. It was George Kent! Guess who won the pole for NASCAR's richest Modified race? Again, it was George Kent. George led 18 laps, but unfortunately blew up before 30 laps were complete. But fellow drivers sure knew George was back!
Thanks I am a New Yorker. Waverly-Elmira. Love those drivers and miss the Rapid Roman.
