This photo was made 8/3/60 two years after closing in July 1958.The 1/4 mile track can been seen in this photo.Also a section had been removed between turns one and two to keep people from driving around the speedway.The first race was actually an AAA race held in 1952.Was originally called Southland Speedway,also Dixie Speedway.

If you notice how tight the turns are. It was almost impossible to gear for the big track. The old flatheads would lug off the turns or wind out before the end of the straights.Originally it was going to be a 3/4 mile track, but it was increased to 1 mile by moving turns 1 and 2 to the right.
