Columbia Speedway and Jake Elder events
Can anyone tell me if they're going to do another reunion down at Columbia, SC? I went to one about 1 1/2 years ago and had a great time. I also understand they did an event somewhere in the greater Charlotte area that was attended by a bunch of former mechanics, etc. Would love to attend an event like that; believe it was for Jake Elder, but I suppose similar events take place. Any help would be appreciated- chances to meet my boyhood heroes. Regards, Major Bill Brown, US Army
Major, you just missed the Second Annual Columbia Speedway event in April. Make your plans now for the 2011 event which will be in April, 2011. This site will keep you current on all the scheduling. Also, on the Jake Elder issue, this year it was honoring Rex White and that was in March. Those events are held at Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville, NC (Race City). Also, in October, Racers Reunion Hall of Fame will induct its second class of honorees. You will want to be at that event. Watch the site for information.Thank you for your service to the country. Stay in touch. E-mail me through the website or use the e-mail: legendtim83@yahoo.comGod bless,Tim
Thanks, Tim. Was pretty sure I was a day late and a dollar short! My Army-related activities keep me so darn busy I don't know where I am any minute. I sure wish NASCAR would stop the bull about loving and honoring its history and really start doing it! It's an extremely sore spot for me. The older crop of drivers are treated as if they don't exist; even worse for the old mechanics, crew chiefs, etc. I went to the reunion at Darlington and enjoyed that. The first Columbia event was very nice. Do you recall who came to the most recent one? Regards, Major Bill Brown
Good morning Major Brown! Rex White, David Pearson, Lil Bud Moore, Paul Lewis, Dink Widenhouse, and many other drivers from the past were there. Check out the pictures and also go to the Team SC Midlands page and we have several pictures and some videos there.Like you, I am so into recognizing the historic figures from stock car racing's past and that's why I am so involved here at Racers Reunion. If you're around tonight at 7:00 p.m., click on the Racers Reunion Radio Icon on the home page and listen to the live radio show "Racin' the Way it Was". Paul Lewis will be the guest tonight and he is most interesting to listen to.Again, thank you for your service to our country. We owe you so much!Tim
