Racers Drive was pleased to join Paul and Evelyn Andrews at the Daytona Beach Rotary Club Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame Awards dinner held on February 18th at the Shores Resort in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.
Over 400 attendees were at the Shores to honor the 2013 inductees, Alan Kulwicki, Sterling Marlin & Barney Hall as Larry McReynolds handled his duties as the evening's Master of Ceremony with his always enjoyable, insightful and unique balance of humor and reverence.
In attendance were such noted NASCAR legends and celebrities as Mike Helton, Leonard and Glenn Wood, Michael Waltrip, Jack Ingram, the Allison brothers, Donnie and Bobby and Alan's long time friend and marketing maven, Dennis Czarnyszka.
Accepting the Hall of Fame award for Alan was Paul Andrews who as Alan's crew chief helped mastermind his successful run to the 1992 NASCAR Championship. In his understated style Paul shared a few stories about Alan and bravely made it through his acceptance speech while many in the audience were visibly moved by the memories he stirred as he reminded us of one of NASCAR's greatest drivers, hardest taskmasters and "thinking outside the box" innovators.
Paul mentioned what many of us believe . . . that if Alan had survived the terrible plane crash on April 1,1993 that today he would be a top multi-car team owner competing on equal terms with the likes of the Roush, Hendrick, Ganassi & Gibbs organizations.
Enough time has now elapsed since Alan left us to muffle the blow his death dealt all who loved and respected him. The evening was a time to cherish and honor his memory as disciples and Kulwicki team members such as Cunningham Motorsports GM Paul Andrews and Danica Patrick Crew Chief Tony Gibson continue to shine in NASCAR and the world of professional Motorsports.
It was a very memorable evening.
