We've lost racing legend "Hayward Plyler"

I lost two of my racing heros within a matter of days. Along with 6-Time Bowman-Gray Stadium Modified Champion Pee-Wee Jones, we lost Hayward Plyler as well. Hayward, aka "Haywood", was a legend around the Carolina dirt tracks, especially at Metrolina & Concord. Check out some old photos of Hayward in my photo album.Hayward L. Plyler, 69, died Dec. 22, 2008, at his home. He was born in Chesterfield, S.C., and lived in Vero Beach for 23 years, coming from Kannapolis, N.C. He was a race car driver in the Carolina Circuit. Survivors include his wife, Rose Moren Plyler of Vero Beach; son, Randy Plyler of Hershey, Pa.; daughter, Kim Cagle of New London, N.C.; stepdaughter, Heidi DiTrocchio of Vero Beach; brother, Harold Plyler of Kannapolis; sister, Faye Freeze of Kannapolis; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Little. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 27 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 28 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery. I never knew haywood personally but I know the name and fame behind it. He was a great driver and will be remebered as legend.

thier all lining up for that big 100 lapper in heaven stick elliott ralph and dale earnhardt,preston humphries,heyward plyler, boy its going to be a ood one hope we have our tickets. rest in peace and godspeed.

I never knew Haywood, but from what I read he had to be one of the greats. It makes my day that someone like Mike that did know him and his racing would share this history. Thanks a million to the both of you.This is for Haywood, I know the race is about to start,tell Pee Wee Jones we miss him, and watch out for Gordon Mangum in the Fox Hollow Special #2, that my dad, he will be on pole.Thanks again Mike,Clyde Mangum #22
