Donny Lia Wins Inaugural University Of Northwestern Ohio Perfect Storm 150Bristol,Tenn.August 18,2009By Mike Ray and Ms.HotrodThe finest stars and cars of the Nascar Whelen Modified Tour and the Nascar Whelen Southern ModifiedTour roared into Bristol Motor Speedway Wednesday night.When the checkered flag waved after 150 lapsof upclose,in your face racing action,2007 Whelen National Champion Donny Lia was crowned winner of theinaugural event.Defending National Champ Ted Christopher,Plainville,CT. started on the pole and was joined on the frontrow by the current southern division point leader George Brunnhoelz III after rain wiped out qualifying earlierin the day.Christopher dominated the event early as Lia from Jericho,N.Y. worked his way to the front.Amandatory caution flag flew after 76 laps as the field pitted for tires and fuel.Christopher continued to lead but Lia was coming to the front as his car was flying thur the field.Lia hadmoved into second place and after a caution took the lead only to be placed back in second place afterjumping the restart.A terrific battle was waged between these champions with Lia grabbing the lead with40 laps to go.Lia then lead the rest of the way to claim the victory.Lia thanked his car owner,the MysticMissile crew and all the fans who attended this speedfest at the World's Fastest half mile speedway.Ted Christopher drove his Al-Lee Instulation Chevy home in 2nd place followed by Ryan Preece,Kensington,Conn. inOle Blue with George Brunnhoelz III and Woody Pitkat,Stafford,Conn. rounding out the top 5 finishers.Both Touring divisions resume August 29,2009 with the Northern stars running at Chemung,N.Y. and theSouthern stars running at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro,N.C.By The Grace Of God and 600 Horsepower,hope to seeyou at the races.
GREAT blog Mike! Enjoyed the race myself, upset at it being editiedthough. Was in LMS division till 81 and enjoyed seeing the "Mod Squad" at Martinsville for the Cardinal and Dogwood Classics. I love by the grace of god and 600 horsepower!!!!!
