Chesterfield native Denny Hamlin will go down in the record books as winner of the Goody's
Fast Relief 500.This years' event will also go down as one of the best ever at the beautiful 1/2
mile oval.A classic short track battle at the circuit that is the oldest on the Sprint Cup Tour.Red
Byron winning the 1st strickly stock race in 1948.The Petty-Allison battles during the 1970's,Evans
and Bodine in the Modifieds but today was the day when Hamlin won the best "Goody's"500 ever.
Hamlin won from the 19th starting position after rain on Friday washed out qualifying. The event produced
24 lead changes but the last 10 laps will have people talking tomorrow.Hamlin and South Boston driver
Jeff Burton battled until Burton had tire issues and Denny Hamlin looked like he would cruise to victory
until a late race caution set up a late, great charge to the checkered flag! Hamlin and his teammate,Kyle
Busch pitted with 10 laps to go and all the other lead cars stayed on the race track.Jeff Gordon now
had the lead as Hamlin and Busch roared thur the top 10 as the laps clicked off.The final caution of the event
came out 2 laps from the end when Busch ended up in the 3rd turn wall.Hamlin was now back up to 4th
place as the flagman signaled a green, white, checkered flag finish.Gordon had the lead when the green flag dropped
but coming out of turn two,Matt Kenseth pushed Gordon up in front of Ryan Newman as Hamlin zigged then
zagged to come into turn 3 on the inside. When Gordon and Kenseth touched in turn 3,the sea parted for
Hamlin who roared into first place.Hamlin took the checkered flag in front of teammate Joey Logano who had his
best run of the season.Jeff Gordon recovered to finish in 3rd place while Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr.
rounded out the top 5 on a wild, beating and banging Martinsville Monday afternoon.
Hamlin thanked his Mike Ford lead crew,Joe Gibbs Racing,Toyota and his family and friends from
victory lane.
