I was informed earlier this afternoon that Dick May has passed away . In recent months Dick had fought several illnesses. We send all our heartfelt prayers to the family. Dick was always a friend and competitor and gentleman. He was a good driver and he was known to try to have qualified more than one car for a race. I know he did this a few times in the 70s and got away with it or at least he thought so anyway. A grass roots racer and a good representitive for such sponsors as STP and Die Hard Batteries and numerous others through the years we will miss his ever present smile and kindred spirit at our fund raisers and in life. We salute you Dick May for your accomplshishments and your help in making stock car racing what it is today. May you rest in peace.Sevices for Dick May are; Visitation on Monday 1pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Calvin- Cooke Funeral Home on Hwy 150 Mooresville NC 6/15/2009 Funeral Service will be held Tuesday June 16th at 1:00 pm at the funeral home a refreshment time will follow after the service.

Sad news. These are Dick May's words (as I remember them) to me on January 20, 2008 at the "Legends Helping Legends" benefit for Sam Ard at Memory Lane Museum...."Somebody needs to do something to recognize this situation....to make a provision so there is help (financial assistance) for these guys. Why don't you do something?" RacersReunion.com was born on January 22, 2008 and launched on the 25th. He was one of those, along with my buddy Paul Lewis, who gave me the inspiration for RacersReunion and our mission. I wish we could have given him the recognition he deserved while he was with us. He will be missed....but we will continue his wish! With all your help and support to spread the word about RacersReunion, WE can accomplish this.

Dick was also part of the inspiration for the RacersReunion Memory Lane Hall of Fame. Yes, Billy, he belongs there.

Nice to read all the awesome comments about such a wonderful person, that is so cool he was the inspiration for racers reunion, i didn't know that. I too have many fond memories of Mr. May, i met him a few times in the pits at places like Atlanta, Daytona, Charlotte. I was just a kid but he was always very nice and kind to me, I'm so glad I saved his autograph, just something else to help me remember him, he was one of the 'originals', a real class act, I'll never forget him! Thanks everyone for the comments, God bless......
