Hi Gang ! I had the pleasure of attending this event last night with the driver of the car i crewed with Mike Heath! I was not sure wehter I was going to go or not , it had been almost 30 years since i had been at this track. My parents, wife and sons, convinved me to go. While driving down there with mike, He lives in Greenbelt and i live in Baltimore so many memories were going over and over in my mind. the year Mike won the both track championships in the limited sportsman division in 1974 at Beltsville and ODS and the success he had a the track, as far as i know he still holds the track record for the division. the LMS action and the night on summer of 79 when during qualifying for a National Championship race he slid in oil from a blown engine from tommy Ellis before the could thorw a caution and slid backwards in the center of turns 1&2, the car wads damged but it could have been worse and
Mike walked away, and then on 6/14/80 during the Coca-cola 200 mike held his own and battled with morgan shepherd and boscoe lowe all night and finished 3rd , even led 5 laps. It is still said that mike took the event because with about 20 to go shepherd tangled with bobby balletine and both he and lowe pitted and Mike never did. We would be happy to settle with 3rd. Unfortuantely the success we had in limited sportsman did not carry over to LMS BUT we had fun! I was going thru several emotions going back there, the good times, what I had 99.9% and then my anger how after 81 NASCAR went to the BUSCH series and the LMS racing I knew would never be the same. And how NASCAR had changed and they would forget their roots and throw them off to the side. The GREAT memories, The races, the drivers , the people, i was 26 when my NASCAR career sort of went away , I stayed in Baltimore and started my life over without racing. I talked to Reds Kagle whom i worked with 81 when mike went to drive for him after the death of anthony Sego. It was a rush to just be around him and i make sure i tell him all the time. I got back i n touch with mike about 2 years ago after going down memory lane and trying to get in touch with one of the people that made my 9 years traveling the NASCAR short tracks fun, and I cannot forget Anthony and Tommy Sego that gave me the chance for me to pursue a passion for as long as i did I will be forever grateful. I guess to end this If any of you have a chance to attend an event like this at a track you labored at for years "GO!!!! the memories last forever, and in my case look for the good times over you dissapointments and you will have fond memories. THANKS to everyone I met and saw at ODS for those 9 years and i will fondly remember you always , THANKS ZAP!!!!!!
Anthony Sego RIP

You are welcome Jack, more than happy to, just wish i could back to those days, i would like to get a national championship vicyory at ODS, and Beltsville (TOO LATE) so i can die happy, going to this event gave me closure in this part of my life
I was hoping tose bill Dennis, BUT i jeardd he is having health issues, heard he got into a bad wreck about 20 yearsa go qualifying a car, and cannot speak anymore , class act, they allare. They did things that impressed me and drove me to try to get a big win in NASCAR LMS , unfortunately never happened
I would like to thank the folks that attended the "Legends Reunion" at Old Dominion Speedway, Sept. 4th. It was great fun to see so many old faces. Renew friendships and talk memories with such guys as Lionel Johnson, Mel Bradley, Wyman Buel, Tom Raley, I can go on and on. It was the 1st Annual event, we will continue to include more of the ODS legends next year. I would guess as many as 10,000 people raced, owned cars, built cars, were involved in racing at ODS over the last 60 years. It was a really fun night, that's what it is all about. I'm sure for some of the guys that attended the event it will be the last chance for everyone to be together in one place. We thank the Britt Family for letting us have the event at the speedway. If we did not include your favorite driver this year, no slight intended, you have not been forgotten.Sincerely,Gary Gore
