not always easy, and NWS

And it's true, It is not always easy to be me. Besides trying to steer NASCAR in the right direction, as a member of the NASCAR Fan Council, trying to take the sport, where I feel it needs to go to keep it's fans and keep great racing isn't always easy. Then add my responsibilities as a Mom, Writer, poet, and creative inputter for a record company, Chevy, my blogs, ect... And again, It ain't always easy! But already Racer's Reunion, is my first stop of the morning. I feel at home, among my own,lol.. The ol' dogs of racing, those who understand, how I feel. So Thank you! So one of the things that the Council always asks is, what do we think NASCAR needs to do? Step back Boys, Step back,lol... But the one thing I always understand, NASCAR is a business first, sport second. So with that in mind, although I would love to see some things change in my sport, all in all, I think it is starting to head into the right direction. Last month I was send on a mission, get stats on the now Nationwide series, including Nielson ratings. Not an easy task, unless you have the right connections, which I am lucky to have. The numbers confirmed what I thought, the sport although hurt by the economy, (ain't we all?) seems to steaming right along. Although I still believe that the Toyota domination is over all, bad for the sport, the numbers do not lie! Still I have problems with a non American Brand in my American Sport. And what makes it even harder is, Toyota employs some of my favorites, especially in the Truck Series. And with the consistancy the Toys have had this year, I see another championship this year for them, (Todd Bodine gave Toyota their first Championship, in the NCTS) sickening isn't it? But no matter what NASCAR does, consistancy will remain the most important part of the sport, at least one thing hasn't changed. So what is a poet left to do? Ignore the manufacturer, cheer on my boys,lol... With no Sunday race, I have the time to watch some old races, something I do in the off season to get me through. Today it had to be my favorite track, North Wilkesboro Speedway. No track presently on the series circuit will ever match a race held at NWS. She was a classy girl, who always provided a great show. She now stands,A ghost of our pastThe elevation of time,Elevation of track. It makes me so sad,That it may be a fact. That the ghosts of North Wilkesboro,May never come back.We thought she was timeless,We thought she would last. But the sounds of the past,Have been silenced through time.Empty stands once full,Up the backstretch,Down the front.Racing there, well,It was so much fun.She now stands bare,Just a ghost of our past. With fourteen million needed,To just bring her back. The ghosts of North Wilkesboro,Will they stand the test of time? Will you stand up and be counted,To help get her back in line?A piece of our history,A racers known fact.Racin at North Wilkesboro,We must bring it back! Its time to save her,A really ol friend.A piece of NASCAR history,I say with a grin.Shes a part of our past,Part of our souls.A lady in need,Thats what I know!Save North Wilkesboro!2008 K. A. SteffekAll rights reservedSo my race is over, I'm off to watch the Formula one race, then will wait patiently for the squirt boys to run tonight, GO ASHLEY! Since the death of Scott Kalitta, I haven't watched, I have been in mourning, but I think it is time to re emerce myself to my second favorite motorsport, the NHRA. Next week is Indy, and I would love for any other manufacturer, besides Toyota, to win,lol.. My heart belongs to the Bowties, wouldn't it be great for Dale Junior to win Indy? The sea of green would celebrate for months,lol... But to see a Roush-Fenway car win would be great too! Maybe David Ragan will find the famous bricks first, wouldn't that be one heck of a first Victory? So I have rambled enough, Thanks again Racer's Reunion, for giving the ol' dogs a place to hang!Poet
