Dickie " bird " Plemmons. you either loved him or hated him. He sure could drive a car. The cheers and boos reminded you of Dale sr.

Great picture. I remember Dickie and the famous #18 Toy Jones chevy running at the Asheville Speedway.

Paul is right. You loved him or hated him. Driving style was that of Dale Sr. You knew if Dickie showed up at the river there was going to be some excitement!

ROOSTER OUTLAW IF YOU'LL NOTICE THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN IN LATE SPRING OR SUMMER. EVERYONE IS IN SHORT SLEEVES AND ALL TREE HAVE THEIR GREEN LEAVES... I too was a "Darling" Dickie lover. I remember watching Dickies #18 and an identical black chevy #0 that Toy Jones drove, pull into the third turn gate at Asheville one night. Boy! was there excitement at the river that night. I wonder what Dickie is doing now?

I HATE TO BRING YOU BAD NEWS HERE AT CHRISTMAS, BUT DICKIE DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I THINK HIS DAUGHTER TOLD ME HE DIED OF CANCER..........BEEN SO LONG I JUST CAN'T REMEMBER. BY THE WAY GERALD I LOVE YOUR PICTURES AND YOUR MEMORIES OF THE SAME TIME PERIOD I GREW UP IN..,..SEEMS JUST LIKE YESTERDAY DON'T IT?......SEE YA PAL, RANDY

Dickies son died a few years ago also. In 1965 they had a 300 lap race that junior johnson won with ned jarrett 2nd and hutch in 3rd. after they had that 300 lap race they had a 50 lap lms race. dickie and ned setzer wrecked in the 1st turn and tore down the light pole in the infield.Ned got his logging chain out from under his seat and started wearing dickie out with it. pretty exciting. typical asheville night. best short track ever.Tom ingram won it.
