SNOW CANT STOP THE SOUTHERN MODIFIEDS AT ORANGE COUNTY SPEEDWAYRonnie Silk, Jay Foley and Jason Myers Turn Quick Times in Spite of Snowy Conditions(King, NC): The sounds of the open-wheel Modifieds returned to Orange County Speedway yesterday for the first time in over 15 years and despite cold weather and snowy conditions the teams in attendance knocked off some very competitive laps.Temperatures in the low 40s and blowing snow did little to dampen the spirits of those on hand for the test and lap times were about a second a lap quicker than the regular OCS divisions. Ronnie Silk in the Hillbilly Racing #79 was the quickest of the group with laps in the 13:40 second range. Jay Foley wasnt far behind in his Foley Machine Chevy with laps in the 13:60 bracket and Jason Myers in the Tranthem/Moorefield, Myers Racing Ford turned laps in the 13:80s. Silk and Foley tested the softer M-20 and M-30 combination and Myers ran the set-up with the harder M-45 compound on the right rear. The OCS track record for the Modifieds was 12:92 when we ran here last, said Gary Myers, owner of the Jason Myers ride. The track has a lot of grip for this kind of weather, commented Silk. We ran the harder right rear for a few laps after we ran the softer stuff and didnt see much difference in times but you can feel the car better on the softer compound said Silk. Foley echoed Silks comments. You have a better feel for the front end of the car with this tire compared to the tires we have used for the past several seasons. That should help in qualifying and should carry over to the race Foley said. I didnt run the softer right rear today but we ran the same tire at the Mason-Dixon Meltdown a couple of years ago and we were very pleased with the tire then, Myers said.Entries continue to come in for the first annual FROST BITE MODIFIED WINTER NATIONALS with a strong contingent of cars from the northeast as well as several of the souths best Modified racers. The Frost Bite Modified Winter Nationals is scheduled for March 6 & 7 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. The track is located on NC Hwy 57 half-way between Hillsborough and Roxboro, NC.For more information go to www.north-southshootout.com or www.southernmodtour.net
