This well known painting made all the early '60's racing programs and commemoratates the 1962 Fireball Roberts/Smokey Yunick Daytona 500 victory. My dad went to that race, and the hot scuttlebutt, when he came home, was that Lee Petty had PHOTOS of a Roberts pit stop that PLAINLY showed an extra pit-crewman over the wall, at some point during the race. As is shown in the painting, Richard Petty did finish 2nd and Lee was trying to improve that position by one!What was not revealed, until many years later, was the flywheel-driven supercharger. It was so secret, that Smokey would only work on the car after all of his employees had left the shop, 11:00 PM or so, Smokey was the only one than knew the whole story!
