Based on body style, I think this car may be from earlier in the 1960s. I'll admit I'm NOT an expert in figuring out these nuances - but I enjoy the puzzle of them.I've been trying to read what driver's name is on the door. In 1967, I've seen photos of Cotton running a white #6 in a dark circle on the door. Sam McQuagg ran a Cotton Dodge in the fall Richmond race & wrecked at Darlington with that type of numbering. Having said that, its possible Bobby drove an older Cotton Dodge in the spring Richmond race with a dark 6 on the door without the circle.

That appears to be the 1965 Dodge which would mean the fall race as the 65 Dodges didn't get back into the sport until the late summer due to the outlawing of the Hemi.

Makes more sense. My first car was a 1965 Dodge Dart hand-me-down from my grandmother. It was shaped more like this than the 'fastback' type Dodges that came along in 67 and 68. I think its likely this other photo from Ray may be from 67 rather than the one here: http://stockcar.racersreunion.com/photo/1981311:Photo:105518

The photo below is taken from Bobby Allison's personal web site and titled Bobby's #6 1967 Dodge ... That is the Richmond grandstand in the background and the car on Richmond's pit road from Bobby's web site identified as Bobby's #6 1967 Dodge carries the same tire mark as the car at Richmond in Ray's photo. The event is the 1967 Richmond 250 and the car is listed (correctly or incorrectly) as a 1967 Dodge.1967 Richmond 250NASCAR Grand National race number 16 of 49 April 30, 1967 at Virginia State Fairgrounds, Richmond, VA 250 laps on a .500 mile dirt track (125.0 miles)Time of race: 1:53:40 Average Speed: 65.982 mph Pole Speed: 70.038 mph Cautions: 6 for 32 laps Margin of Victory: 20 sec Attendance: 6,000 Lead changes: 6Fin St # Driver Sponsor / Owner Car Laps Money Status Led 1 1 43 Richard Petty Petty Enterprises '67 Plymouth 250 2,150 running 191 2 4 6 Bobby Allison Cotton Owens '67 Dodge 250 1,300 running 13 3 2 29 Dick Hutcherson Bondy Long '67 Ford 247 950 running 46 4 7 48 James Hylton Econo Wash (Bud Hartje) '65 Dodge 241 700 running 0 5 15 20 Clyde Lynn Clyde Lynn '66 Ford 231 550 running 0

Here is my best guess on the photo posted by TMC as I just relayed to him: I have never been accused of being Sherlock Holmes, however what little deductive reasoning I have leads me to say the photo posted by TMC is of McQuagg in the Cotton Owens Dodge at the 1967 Richmond Capital City 300 (September) race. Here's why I say that: In looking at photos of the 1968 and 1967 Plymouths of Richard I note a difference in the size of the dual headlights on what I think is the Satellite Richard was using those two years. On the 1968 Satellite looks like the dual headlights are the same size. On the 1967 Satellite looks like the outside headlight is larger than the inner headlight. Racing Reference lists Richard in a '68 for the two '68 Richmond races and a '67 for the two '67 Richmond races. If that is correct and knowing Bobby ran for Coton in the spring '67 Richmond race, thios must be the fall '68 race with Sam in Cotton's car. And, of course, I may be totally wrong!
