I know that Wendell Scott never set the world afire as far as winning races. However, the man deserves alot of credit for sticking to something he must have enjoyed doing. It appears that he had equipment that was second to many of stars of the day. Yet, he made it work the best he could. If ever there was a book that should be written, it should be his story. I'd bet his life was an interesting story just waiting to be told.

The book's already in print........"Hard Driving" it's available from Amazon. Talk about racing for the LOVE of the sport! Read this book, it'll bring tears to your eyes........Buck Baker sold Wendell his first Grand National car, and since the bondo and flat black paint was excellent camaflouge, Buck didn't bother to tell Wendell that the frame was (essentially) cracked in two. Wendell found out the hard way-on the backstretch at Columbia, SC, in a RACE. The rear-half of the car broke off!For years, Bob Colvin et. al. would refuse Wendell's entry blank to events at Darlington, Bill France was reluctant to force the Darlington issue.Wendell towed to RIVERSIDE, Ca in 1963 on the promise of $150 travel money, in addition, to whatever he won. Wendell finished 18th, won $175, and was not paid one cent extra.Jack Smith wrecked Wendell so many times, it took carrying a pistol in the RACE CAR to solve this problem, but the pistol SOLVED it!"Hard Driving" is excellent reading, but a very sad and frustrating story.

Are any of Wendell's old cars still around?? I know some of them have been restored to what they were before Wendell got them. I'm wondering if anybody has bothered to restore one of Wendell's cars as one of Wendell's cars.
