This 8mm film shows early NASCAR racing at Peace Haven Speedway in Winston-Salem, NC from April 19, 1954 - A.M.A. Motorcycle racing at Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, NC from 1954 - NASCAR racing at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC from January 8, 1955 - Exotic Car racing at Virginia International Raceway from 1959.There are two parts to this film -Part 1 is all Peace Haven Speedway 1954 (10:23).Part 2 includes a short clip of Peace Haven Speedway (:26), a short clip of motorcycles at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem (:22), a long clip of Bowman Gray Stadium (4:35), and a very long clip of Exotic Car racing at Virginia International Raceway (7:58).

GREAT NOSTALGIA. MY DAD TOOK ME TO PEACE HAVEN AND BOWMAN GRAY MANY TIMES. I WAS 14 IN 1954. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT I REMEMBER A SPORTSMAN DIVISION AND AN AMATEUR DIVISION AT BOWMAN GRAY. WHICH DIVISION WAS RACING IN THE MOVIES?LATER WHEN I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAR IT WAS A 1959 MGA. I BECAME A SPORTS CAR FAN AND SPENT SOME TIME AT VIR.THANKS FOR BRINGING BACK OLD MEM0RIES OF NOT ONLY RACING BUT ALSO THE FUN THAT I HAD WITH MY DAD
Larry, you are correct. Bowman Gray had weekly Sportsman and Amateur divisions during the mid 50's. Peace Haven had Modifieds from 1948 until into 1951 and Sportsman & Amateur untilit's last race in1956.I would love to get in touch with you sometime and hear your memories of Peace Haven and Bowman Gray if you've got the time!Robert
