Zintmaster Chevrolet, 1962 Impala 409 built July 31, 1962, prototype of the Z11 to come in 1963.
Zintsmasters 1962 409 Impala with the aluminum front end was built on July 31st 1962 and shipped on August 3rd. He did have steel 409 car that he had been running all year prior to the delivery of the aluminum car. It was driven by Tom Crutchfield. The aluminum front end car received a new Hayden Proffit 409 short block between delivery of the car to the dealership and the Indy Nationals.
These cars did not have a factory RPO number assigned and, as a result, are hard to distinguish from 1962 Chevrolet cars that had lightweight parts installed later. The 1962 factory lightweight cars were also NOT delivered with the engine service package upgrade, which came seperately as the Mark I engine under part #3833117 (often mistakenly called the Z-11 engine). With the aluminum parts and the 409/425 engine the cars fell into the B/Factory Experimental Class.
