The changing of the guard. I don't ever remember seeing this pic, but since I was young and knew both, I was glad Richie won the first Don MacTavish memorial at Albany Saratoga Speedway in 1969. The picture the guy standing is holding is Don winning the 1968 STP 150 in the L & R Speed Shop Special. Richie gave the trophy to Don's Mother (by the RF tire & Marcia his sister is standing by the RR).They started near the same time, and during those times in the 60's A-S Speedway was really a tough place to race. You had guys like, MacTavish, Evans, Stevens, Desarro, Cleary, Flemke, Hamilton, Corey, Shoemaker, Zimmerman, Seamon, Troyer, Santo's, Pendergast, and so many more. Those were great memories for kids like myself, Robin & Randy Pemberton, Steve Hmiel.

thats when richie first started in the mods his number was still 6 he and mayard came to a agreement seeing Mayard had the 6 first
