We lost him at to young of an age. One of the GREAT ones..!!!!

Yes we did he paid for his whole family to come down and watch him worst part is it happened right in front of me

His mom and sister were at home. His mom found out about it when they aired in on Wide World of Sports. Don's mom never saw him race although his sister Marcia did a few times. I was their also and I was in the pits, unfortunately it happened in front of us also. I ran on the beach the night before with him. I was only 14 years old, but he worked at my parents speed shop at the time this opportunity came up. He was a great person, I am so proud to have known him. We had a lot of fun when he ran our car, he won a lot of races in it, even though we only ran the big money shows with it in 1968. He was destined to be one of the greatest to ever race in a stock car. I miss him like a brother to this day. His 70th birthday would have been last month on the 22nd.
