my uncle don oldenberg 1955 buick.he won the safe championship in this car. and my dad red duvall drove it in the first converitable race on the beach in daytona feb 25 1956. he finished sixth

Now that's cool. First traveling late model show I ever saw was a Society for AutomobileFellowship and Education (SAFE) event in 1955 at the Jeffersonville (Ind.) Sportsdrome. I think Jack Harrison won that race, with Don Oldenberg second. Bob Pronger started on the pole and led about half the race in a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado. Later that year, maybe in the winter, SAFE merged (bought out by) NASCAR.
